GUIDANCE CALENDAR 2023-2024
FOR JUNIORS
School Code - 310824 Guidance Phone (201) 391-2099
Several important decisions related to your future have to be made during this year.
Your plans for the future should become more specific. Discussions with your counselor, your
parents, teachers, and others, as well as reviewing the results of various tests should prove most
helpful to you in the process.
Helpful opportunities in the Decision-Making Process:
- Junior Parent Night -- Attend Junior Parent Night on December 7, 2023 at 7 PM with your parents. This is an information and planning session for this important year.
- College Nights -- Attend one of the area’s “Virtual or In-Person College Nights” with your parents and obtain up-to-date information and materials. The Bergen County College Fair is generally scheduled for September at Fairleigh Dickinson University (Rothman Center). More information will be provided through Naviance emails closer to the time. Also, NACAC will host some “virtual” NACAC College Fairs at: www.nacacfairs.org/virtual
- Develop a list of schools by using Naviance on the St. Joseph’s website; make an appointment to see your counselor in person or virtually after the December meeting.
- Meet deadlines for SAT & ACT testing.

January – March : Individual college meetings (virtually or in person, if appropriate) with juniors and families to review transcripts and testing and create a list of safe, target, and reach college choices.
Spring Time for serious research of various post-secondary opportunities. Most colleges have websites. Therefore, this is a good place to begin your search. Use NAVIANCE for both Advanced college search and Super Match college search, and use the Scattergram feature to help in determining reach, target, and safety. Also, use Collegeboard's Big Future for additional information (https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/find-colleges). Numerous reference books are available in Guidance, online, and in your local libraries to help you discover whether a college meets your needs or interests. Juniors interested in any of the service academies or ROTC should start the process now.
Individual Junior conferences (virtually or in person, if appropriate) will be held with each family to discuss post secondary plans.
NCAA Registration: Juniors who plan to apply to a Division I or II college must register online. The NCAA website is www.eligibilitycenter.org. The student will be asked for his email and a password which will be used continuously during recruiting season to complete the “My Tasks” section. This is where a student checks to see what has been received by the eligibility center. Parents must send official ACT/SAT scores to the eligibility center using the code: 9999. Send your scores electronically using the appropriate test website (collegeboard.org or actstudent.org). When a Senior graduates, official transcripts/proof of graduation will be mailed to the Certification Center in late June. The Initial Transcript and the Final/graduation Transcript are the only papers Guidance forwards to the eligibility center.
Students/parents may contact the Certification center at 877-262-1492. An online guide is available at eligibilitycenter.org website. Click on “enter here” under High Schools. Click on “resources” and under “other links” where a guide for college-bound athletes is located.
May 6-17 2024 Advanced Placement Tests at SJR.
Summer An opportune time to visit the colleges in which you are interested. It is best to go online or call, making a definite appointment; otherwise, you may not see what you want.
