About me
I started my second career at SJR in 2007. After spending nearly thirty years in corporate America, I found my niche teaching mathematics. It was an easy transition for me. Although I only used a little of the algebra, geometry, and higher level math that I learned during my education in my business career, I was still able to step right into the classroom and teach the subjects as if I had just seen them yesterday. Why? Great teachers! I must admit that I always enjoyed math, and had a knack for it. However, my high school instructors taught me the importance of being able to think critically and solve problems, sometimes in an unorthodox and creative manner. My goal is to have the same impact on my students; teach the importance of mathematics, but make it interesting and enjoyable for them. I find ways to bring my knowledge and love for sports into the classroom as instructional material. I look forward to answering the inevitable question, “When am I ever going to use this?” I try to keep the classroom stress-free and fun. So, an occasional diversion to talk about a favorite movie or personal experience serves to maintain a “lighter side” that the students really enjoy.
