SJR Italian Class Embarks on a Cultural Adventure at Eataly

Last week, students from Joe Mazzarella’s Italian class enjoyed an exciting cultural field trip to Eataly, the renowned Italian marketplace in New York City. This immersive experience was not just a casual visit; it was designed to deepen the students' understanding of Italian culture, language, and cuisine.

To make the trip even more engaging, Mr. Mazzarella prepared a scavenger hunt-style assignment that sent the students on a quest throughout the store. Armed with their smartphones, the students were tasked with locating various Italian items, brands, and specialty foods. This hands-on activity allowed them to apply their language skills in a real-world setting, as they identified and translated authentic Italian products.

Students used their phones to actively participating in the scavenger hunt, exploring the rich offerings of Eataly, from fresh pasta and olive oils to Italian cheeses and desserts. The experience offered them a unique blend of education and fun, bringing Italian culture to life in a way that a traditional classroom setting simply cannot.

The trip to Eataly was not only an educational success but also a memorable one. The day consisted of plenty of smiles, laughter, and of course, delicious food.

Che bella giornata! — What a beautiful day!
