Expectations Sky-High for SJR Baseball in 2023

“Our goal is to win the triple crown, plain and simple,” said senior Brant Vicini. “When it’s all said and done, we want to be league, county, and state champs.” For a team that is led by a strong senior core and is just two years removed from its most recent triple crown season, it is definitely attainable.

The Green Knights went 22-9 a season ago, reaching the finals of the county tournament and semi-finals of the state tournament. The team is using these losses as motivation heading into the new year.

“Definitely left a bad taste in our mouths. We’re hungry to get out there and make a statement this year,” Vicini said.

Along with Vicini, Chad Falcon, Ryan Foody, Julian Rondon, Felix Gonzalez and Frank Panissidi headline a veteran and experienced group of seniors that will provide key leadership for the rest of the team. Other familiar faces include juniors Jeff Germosen, Tom Manzo, and Brady Knuckles. Keep an eye out for several newcomers as well.

SJR starts the season as the number six ranked team in North Jersey. The Green Knights open up this Monday, April 3, at Bergenfield. After that, the team is back home against Morris Knolls and Bridgewater-Raritan in the following days.
